Provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients with multi-organ trauma or multi-system failure, according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of a physician. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient clinical status. Documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s). Formulates and implements treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s).

Qualifications for the NP Intensivist Role

  • Requires certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Indiana.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires MSN as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Indiana; and current RN licensure in the State of Indiana.
  • Requires current national certification in area of clinical specialty.
  • New NP/APN graduates will have one year from date of graduation to obtain certification.
  • Board certification is required for this position. New advance practice registered nurse graduates will have 3 months from the time of graduation to obtain board certification.
  • Requires clinical expertise as applicable to individual area.
  • Knowledge of the service standards and regulatory standards governing care delivery and operations.
  • Requires the ability to assess learning needs and plan educational programs.
