Prepares for autopsies by organizing and setting up instruments and supplies. Completes all diagrams, weights, measurements, photographs and other necessary documentation. Maintains the morgue in a clean and operational state. Accounts for all bodies and specimens until they are properly discharged from the morgue. Apply teamwork. Apply experience. Apply skill. Qualifications for the Autopsy Tech Role

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science or related field is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy..
  • Requires knowledge of specific procedures for dissecting human corpses. .
  • Requires the ability to assist with an autopsy on infectious cases with the knowledge of aseptic and antiseptic procedures to prevent the spread of disease and infection..
  • Requires the ability to make accurate incisions and to effectively utilize the available autopsy tools to facilitate proper pathologic examination..
  • Requires knowledge of how to stitch tissue together after autopsy and clean body and prepare for undertaker when asked.
  • Requires knowledge of coroner's regulations, organ procurement and tissue bank requirements.
