Since 1979, IU Health (IUH) LifeLine (LL) has become one of the most comprehensive and largest hospital-based programs in the state and nation. They are affiliated with two Level 1 trauma centers, one of them being Riley Hospital for Children- one of the only Level 1 pediatric trauma centers in Indiana! Outside of providing transports between the IUH facilities, the Comms. Team also provides support and service to customers throughout the state of Indiana, Western Ohio, and Eastern Illinois.

The Communications Center sits onsite at their headquarters in downtown Indianapolis. Here, team members will have the chance to use our state of the art phone systems and technology. Including sophisticated phone systems that disperse call volume throughout the center ensuring that calls are prioritized appropriately, as well as innovative satellite tracking capabilities that allow the Communications team to stay in consistent contact with crew members and transports to supervise and provide real-time status updates.

Qualifications for the Transport Specialist I Role

  • May require Certified Flight Communicator certification or equivalent training within 18 months of hire; Must maintain current certification by completing required continuing education courses.
  • Requires successful completion of a dispatch orientation program upon hire.
  • Requires a minimum of 0-3 years of relevant industry experience; EMT certification preferred.
  • Dispatch experience preferred.
  • Requires excellent communication skills; in-depth knowledge of communication equipment and technology; and knowledge of transport responsibilities in order to give and receive critical information accurately.
  • Remains current and active in the profession and the medical transport industry.
  • Completes clinical rotations or operational experiences as assigned and by the completion due date.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 20-30 words per minute.
  • Ability to work with computer programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, and our CAD system.
