This position integrates the role of patient advocate in the provision of care with the technical functions of data collection and analysis, intensive patient care review, and process improvement. This position requires a high standard of clinical judgment, creativity, organization, and priority setting. This person will craft aggregate data reports, open record review, survey preparation and ongoing survey compliance, event investigation and management. This person works closely with Medical Staff leadership, the Executive Director of Medical Staff Affairs and the Chief Medical Officers of the AHC facilities to lead performance improvement activities that ensure optimal patient outcomes and early identification of patient safety issues. In the absence of the department manager, the incumbent supports and ensures ongoing operations. This role collaborates with similar positions across the healthcare system in support the peer review process. This person combines expert clinical knowledge of health care delivery systems with current quality improvement tools and techniques to achieve excellence in clinical outcomes. Qualifications for the Medical Staff Quality/Peer Review Specialist Role

  • Requires current RN Indiana licensure
  • Bachelors in related health field (preferably nursing).
  • Masters degree in clinical, healthcare or business area required or waived if candidate possesses 3 to 5 years experience working directly in a health care quality department.
  • Requires experience in performance improvement methodologies; quality measurement; and data analysis using statistical principles.
  • Prior experience in hospital or clinical management preferred.
  • Requires computer knowledge.
  • Windows application: Skilled in the use of select Microsoft Office Applications; e.g. Word; Excel and PowerPoint or other database management applications.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and with members of the medical staff.
  • Requires strong public speaking skills and ability to deliver effective presentations and educations to large groups of physicians and staff.
  • Requires ability to prioritize multiple projects and the flexibility to accommodate changing priorities.
  • CPHQ (Certified Health Care Quality Professional) required or must be obtained within first year of employment.
