The Histotechnician produces high quality microscopic slides of tissues received while maintaining patient confidentiality. Also performs all necessary duties and procedures required for the processing of specimens for diagnostic and research purposes. Identifies tissue structure and cell components for use in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of a disease. Performs complex immunohistochemistry procedures to aid in diagnosis.

Qualifications for the Histotechnologist Role

  • Associate's degree in Histology or a related field required. Bachelor's Degree in Histology or a related field preferred.
  • 2 years histology experience required.
  • Certification through ASCP (or equivalent) required.
  • Requires ability to prepare reagents.
  • Requires proficiency at computer entry/retrieval of lab results.
  • Requires ability to utilize and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment in performing tests.
  • Requires ability to troubleshoot equipment.
